New Security Citadel Rimini
The project for the New Security Citadel in Rimini transforms a decommissioned state-owned area into a multifunctional hub organized around an “administrative quadrangle.” The architectural layout is based on a square measuring 195 meters per side, housing four independent buildings (Prefecture, Finance Guard, Carabinieri, and State Police) arranged to create a “zigzagging” perimeter that breaks the rigidity of the urban boundary. The structures, ranging from one to three stories high, adopt stereotomic T-shapes to optimize internal distribution and reduce horizontal pathways. A distinctive feature is the building envelope, made of a prefabricated system of recycled exposed concrete panels; each building features a different color to enhance institutional recognition. Extensive green terraces on the rooftops improve the microclimate and the quality of the workspaces. At the heart of the complex, the “courtyard” serves as a protected ecosystem for shared functions such as the auditorium and the canteen. To the north, four coordinated residential volumes complete the intervention, integrating with the pre-existing urban fabric.
